Bill Flores Outraises Chet Edwards in Campaign's 2nd Quarter

Over $613,000 raised from April to June, Campaign Has Nearly 1,300 Total Donors

July 15th 2010 | Matt Mackowiak | Bill Flores for Congress

In the quarterly fundraising report filed today with the Federal Election Commission, the Flores campaign showed total receipts of $613,142 in the quarter and $1,127,823 since the Flores filed his candidacy on December 16, 2009.  As of June 30, the campaign reported cash on hand totaling $415,333.  For the second quarter, nearly 60 percent of the contributions were less than $200 and the majority of contributions were from 17th District residents.

“I am thrilled to have received overwhelming grassroots support from across the entire district, with folks from Burleson to Navasota and everywhere in between responding to our message of limited government, fiscal responsibility and private sector job creation,” said Flores.  “Everyday our campaign’s momentum is growing and I am more encouraged today than ever before that we are on track to win this campaign in November.”

Career politician Edwards has been desperately trying to distance himself from his own voting record and the Obama administration.  Edwards is feeling pressure, particularly since a column was published by respected independent political analyst Stuart Rothenberg analyzing a poll taken May 2-3 that showed Flores leading his Edwards 53 percent to 41 percent with only six percent undecided.

As evidence of this reality, in today’s Washington Post, Congressman Edwards blamed ‘Democrats’ for his political situation in an attempt to run away from the very Obama-Pelosi agenda that he has supported over 96 percent of the time.  In that story Washington insider Edwards said, “The Democrats have overreached, and that's one reason why there are so many races in play.  Rahm Emanuel knows as well as anyone the challenges moderate and conservative Democrats face in their districts. I think there are some, in the administration and in Congress, who don't fully understand the political dynamics.”

Flores said, “Congressman Edwards can try to fool the voters, but it is not working.  His consistent votes for the Obama-Pelosi agenda in favor of growing government, out of control spending, and record deficits and debt are the reason that so many grassroots supporters across the District are supporting me.  The voters want to change the direction of the country by electing a conservative representative who will vote for limited government, fiscal responsibility and help grow private sector jobs.”
