    She began her career in public service as Mayor of Fort Worth from 1989 to 1995, where she cut crime by 49% in four years. In November 1996, Kay made history when she became the first Republican and the first woman ever elected to represent Texas Congressional District 12. As a freshman in Congress, she got legislation passed to help parents pay for college by providing tax incentives for prepaid college tuition. She soon was asked to serve on the Speaker’s Health Care Task Force where she pushed for more access and better affordability on health care. And in 1999, she began serving on the House Appropriations Committee. Today she still serves on that committee and sits on the Defense, Homeland Security and Military Construction/Veterans Affairs Subcommittees. She remains a national leader in fighting for the men and women who fight for us.

    Wallace Jefferson was appointed chief justice September 14, 2004, by Gov. Rick Perry. He succeeded former Chief Justice Thomas R. Phillips as the 26th chief justice in Texas. Jefferson joined the Court from private practice in San Antonio. As a partner in the appellate-specialty firm Crofts, Callaway & Jefferson, he successfully argued two cases before the United States Supreme Court. He is a graduate of the James Madison College at Michigan State University and the University of Texas School of Law.

    Justice Johnson was appointed to the Court on March 15, 2005, by Gov. Rick Perry. He was serving as chief justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo at the time of his appointment. He was elected to the Seventh Court of Appeals in 1998 and was elected chief justice in 2002. He practiced law from 1975 until 1998 with the Lubbock law firm of Crenshaw, Dupree & Milam, L.L.P.

    On January 9, 2007, Robert Lee Nichols was sworn in to represent the citizens of Texas State Senate District 3, which is comprised of 16 counties ranging from southern Tyler to just north of Houston and stretching east to the Texas-Louisiana border. In the Texas Senate, Nichols serves as vice chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee and sits on the Transportation and Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and Nominations Committees.

    Elected Speaker of the Texas House at the start of only his second full term, Joe Straus was handed the gavel on January 13, 2009 pledging to build bridges between the two parties in a House narrowly divided by two seats.     Chairman Harvey Hilderbran is serving in his eleventh term in the Texas House of Representatives. Representing part of the Texas Hill Country for over two decades, District 53 currently includes: Crockett, Sutton, Schliecher, Real, Kerr, Kimble, Menard, Mason, Llano, San Saba, McCullock, Concho, Coleman, Runnels and Callahan Counties.     Justice Angelini practiced law for approximately ten years with the law firm of Brock and Fuller. She also served as a Briefing Attorney with the Fourth Court of Appeals for one year and with the U.S. District and U.S. Magistrate Courts in the San Antonio Division of the Western District of Texas for four years. Justice Angelini served as President of the San Antonio Bar Association in 2004-2005. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the San Antonio Bar Foundation and she is a member of the Texas Bar Foundation.
